John is instructed to take and eat the little scroll from the angel. The act symbolized fully receiving God’s revealed Word and prophetic message. Its sweetness reflected the joy of God’s truth, while the bitterness pointed to the suffering, judgment, and hardship that would accompany proclaiming it.
God’s Word is always good, true, and life giving. It brings delight to the soul while also carrying weight and responsibility. Truth comforts and confronts at the same time, reminding us that obedience to God is never empty, shallow, or without cost.
Today, this verse calls me to move beyond merely reading Scripture to truly internalizing it. God’s Word may encourage me one moment and challenge me the next, yet both are acts of His love. Even when obedience feels heavy, I can trust that His truth is shaping me for His purposes.
As a Christian, we are called to receive God’s Word fully, embracing both its sweetness and its challenge. We cannot cling only to the verses that comfort us while ignoring those that convict us. Daily obedience requires humility, trust, and courage to live out what God has spoken. Beloved, let’s allow His truth to transform us from the inside out.
